The Ironwood Memorial Building is a city meeting place where you  could go swimming
in the winter, attend or play in band concerts,  have drill team practice, prom and
 weekend dances, etc. There is only one bathroom in the building and these are Ironwood
 residents standing in line waiting to use the very famous room.

1   News From Marla RE the reunion date will be September 19-21, 2008,

2 On July 21, 2007, a group of  classmates from the L.L. Wright High School class of 1958 met to begin planning for the 50th class reunion to be held in 2008.  Attending were Ginny Forslund, Art Jacquart, Jan Wennersten Trier, Virginia Velin Burchell, Nancy Larson Kruse, Alice Allender Maki, Jerry Cloud, Bob Wickman, Louise Talaska Buerger, Betsy Isaacson Slabaugh, Jim Johnson, and Marla Hariu Nachtsheim.  This summary of the meeting is being sent to classmates who are on the e-mail list, as well as to those who attended the meeting, and those who have shown interest, as well as those who live in the Ironwood area, who may be able to assist with planning. An informative letter will be sent to all classmates when a date and place for the reunion is firmed up.   The consensus of the group was that the event should be held during the month of September, and thus, the reunion date will be September 19-21, 2008, if all goes well and we can arrange a place for the reunion. An alternative date would be the last weekend in Sept.  The plan is to explore the possible use of Indianhead or Powderhorn Mountain.  The class of 1957 is having a 3 day reunion at Indianhead on Sept. 21-23-2007, and so, we will see how that works out, as we consider doing the same.  Alice and Louise will be attending that reunion, and will provide feedback to our committee. Jan will also look at what Powderhorn will be able to offer us, If either should not prove to be a workable option, then we will look at other places. One of the other options was to have the main event at the Memorial Building, which would need a catered meal and a cash bar set up, which could possibly be provided by the American Legion clubroom. (Bob Wickman later informed me that he attended the Sports’ Hall of Fame dinner held at the memorial building, and that the meal catered by Tacconelli’s was excellent). We also talked about having a “teen-age” dance on Friday night at the Memorial Building, with the music that night, and have Saturday evening for a dinner and program, without music. Friday night would be a fun night, and a time to reminisce about the “Night Train” dances on Friday nights.  It was suggested that we would encourage everyone to dress in red and white for a fun evening. Virginia was going to check into the use of the Memorial Building, as to availability, cost, etc.  We discussed the option of having the St. Ambrose class of ’58 join us.  Art will check on that with Kathy Nezworski from their class.  We had invited them to our 45th reunion, and received no response.  Jan will be the treasurer for our reunion, with Betsy on the joint account. She has set up the checking account, which had approximately a $300.00 balance, after we made our donations from the last reunion. We will accept donations ahead of time, as several classmates have offered to donate in order to have a great reunion with good food and music. So those of you who would like to donate now, please send the donations to Jan Trier, 611 E. Ayer St., Ironwood MI 49938.  Betsy will check on the Lowell Street Band, as to cost and availability.  (However, after hearing them play on Saturday evening, amongst many complaints about the music, I have asked her not to contact them, but to check on other local bands, as well as DJs that might be available).  There was a band called Strange Trax out of Ashland that played on Sunday, and were excellent.  I have their card and they charge $400.00.  Also, I heard about another band called “nobodinos” out of Hurley that is supposed to be very good, and I have their business card.  If anyone knows of another band or a DJ, which could be a better option, let Betsy or one of the committee members know.  We discussed a program and speakers.  Alice has volunteered to speak. It was also suggested that Jean Lutey Jokipii be the MC again, along with Dave Landretti, who did an excellent job, or anyone else who would like to volunteer.    Options suggested for other events are: a tour of the high school (perhaps Dave Rasmussen would do this again, as he did several years ago), the bus trip around Ironwood, with Joe Carlson (Andre’ LaMarche’s husband) as our tour guide, if he is willing, as he did it for the 45th reunion, a home football game, depending on the schedule, a pasty lunch at Black River or Little Girl’s Point, as part of the bus tour or separately, a tour of the Memorial building which Gary Harrington would gladly do for us) and a Sunday morning brunch ( Betsy Isaacson Slabaugh has volunteered to have this at her home).  It was suggested that MaryAnn Berzinski Bowman could make name tags for us.  We will talk to her about that.  Jim Johnson could obtain decorations for the reunion.  Another suggestion discussed was to have T-shirts made for the class members with a logo, or whatever on them   We need to have a ceremony for the deceased, and someone to volunteer to do this.   We do need updates on all classmates’ mailing addresses, etc.  Marla will get a general letter out to the class to save the date, when it is firmed up, and to begin the process of planning an informational booklet for all.  For all who receive this letter, any and all suggestions and comments are welcome.  The next planning meeting will be on 9/21/07 at Manny’s at 12:00 noon for lunch.
