BROWN SWING ORCHESTRA IS MAKING.
January 20, 2003 Dear Enrique, Thank you for your interest in Richard Brown's Swing
Orchestra and String Ensemble. I would very much like the opportunity to work
with you on events that you might be planning. I am very excited about the
direction that the band has taken. In addition to Sheri Lavo, my longtime singer
with the band, three more singers have been added. Sheri and the band do all the
traditional big band favorites, Frank Sinatra, George Gershwin as well as the
new contemporary swing that is so popular today. In less than a year the String Ensemble has already found its own niche. It is the only ensemble of its kind in Houston. It is a very unique and versatile group, made up of the finest string players in Houston and is ideal for those events that require something a little different with a classy touch. At the recent Opera Opening Night Reception, Shelby Hodge noted " The unprecedented glamour continued with the romantic music of the Richard Brown String Ensemble". The repertoire encompasses a wide range of musical styles including classical, Broadway, pop music, gypsy, tangos, Latin, love songs and holiday music. The ensemble is suited for private homes as well as a large ballroom. In addition to the band and string ensemble I can help you with any musical needs that your event might require. I can provide everything from a full symphony orchestra to a solo harpist. As well as putting the ensembles together, I can assist your client design the appropriate music for the theme of their event. I have enclosed a promotional packet, a video and CD's of the band and string ensemble for your consideration. Richard Brown's Swing Orchestra was formed in December 1996 to perform for the Young Presidents' Organization Holiday Party. Their music ranges from the Big Band favorites of Glenn Miller to a large repertoire of music from the Frank Sinatra songbook. It also includes an entire collection of George Gershwin's most popular songs, as well as songs made famous by Sammy Davis, Dean Martin and the contemporary swing sounds of Brian Setzer, Cherry Poppin Daddies and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy as well as Latin favorites.
The orchestra offers three formats:
A full 27 piece orchestra with strings
A 17 piece Dance Band (the same size as the Glenn Miller band)
An 8 piece comboAll of the arrangements are written for each of the formats and feature the beautiful singing voice of Sheri Lavo, Latin talent Marcos Murello and our newest member, Sharon Montgomery.
The band is a classy ensemble committed to providing the best dance music for a discriminating audience. Since its inception, the Richard Brown Swing Orchestra has performed for many of the city's elite social events, including The St. Joseph's Hospital Gala, The Shepherd School of Music Gala, the 1999 Opera Ball, The Rice Design Alliance, The UT fund-raiser with Tommy Tune, The YPO and Gerald Hines Holiday parties, as well as many private parties and weddings. The orchestra has also performed for events in Los Angeles, Dallas, Cincinnati and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. In addition to the musical requirements for your event, Richard Brown can help design all the entertainment required to carry out the theme of your party.
The band in any of the formats and in every setting brings an energy that is unequaled. With our singers and the band, Richard Brown's Swing Orchestra is the most complete band in Houston. We are ready and able to satisfy a wide range of musical tastes.
